Turo has launched the Turo SK8, and you can rent it today for your backyard or neighbourhood rink in Toronto via the Turo app or website.
The Turo SK8 is a fully electric ice-resurfacing vehicle built by Porta Ice out of Calgary, Alberta. It has a 6×6-volt deep cycle 245 A/H battery and produces a single horsepower. It is not your classic Zamboni you see at your local rink, but its small nature makes it perfect to work on a local rink.
Turo has partnered with Canadian Olympian Marie-Philip Poulin to launch the EV ice resurfacer. Starting today, you can rent the SK8 on Turo for four-hour trips for $29, to match Poulin’s jersey number. With each rental, Turo will donate and match all proceeds to KidSport.
Poulin had this to say about the launch:
Smaller, family-run local and backyard rinks play such an important part in fostering the love of hockey and skating across so many communities, including my own. I’m thrilled to be able to partner with Turo to level up local rinks with the Turo SK8, giving them that smooth, professional finish.
Turo plans to make the SK8 available in other communities in Canada and will update when the SK8 will be available outside of Toronto in the future.
Drive Tesla was invited out for the launch and got some great pictures and videos of the SK8.
