Tesla’s Plaid Model S reportedly beats Taycan by 20 seconds at Nürburgring

The ongoing battle between Tesla and Porsche took another twist today, with a report from Germany’s auto magazine Auto Motor und Sport that Tesla’s Plaid Model S lapped the famed Nürburgring in 7:23, a full 20 seconds faster than the official lap record held by the new Porsche Taycan.

There is a big asterisks* that goes along with this report though. That is that this was an unofficial, hand-recorded lap time, so there is obviously going to be many people questioning its reliability, and rightly so. But even if it was a few seconds off, that still leaves plenty of room for the Tesla to take the official lap record from Porsche, when it gets its official lap in.

Tesla has yet to release any information or specs about the Model S that will attempt the official lap record, but rumours persist that it is the new Plaid three motor powertrain that Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed via Twitter last week.

Do you think Tesla will beat the Taycan record at Nürburgring?
