Tesla Sets New Date for Postponed Signature Edition Delivery Event

Tesla has rescheduled its postponed Signature Edition delivery event, with owners now expected to gather at Fremont Factory on May 20, just over a week later than originally planned.

The event was initially supposed to take place on May 12 before Tesla abruptly postponed it only three days before it was scheduled to take place, frustrating many buyers who had already booked flights, reserved hotels, and made plans to attend the invite-only event.

Now a new date has been set, but the brief delay has some customers reacting with disbelief that it is only one week later.

While Tesla has not officially commented on the postponement, a possible reason came out on Monday – Elon Musk’s reported invitation to join U.S. President Donald Trump on trip to China. According to a report from Bloomberg, the White House invited several high-profile executives, including Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, to accompany the President on the visit.

If Musk is indeed planning to attend, the timing would have directly conflicted with Tesla’s May 12 Signature Edition delivery event.

Given the significance of the trip—it would mark the first visit by a sitting U.S. President to China in roughly a decade—it would not be surprising if Tesla decided to prioritize Musk’s participation. China remains one of Tesla’s most important markets globally, and Musk’s presence during a high-level diplomatic and business visit could carry substantial strategic importance for the automaker.

Still, while the possible reasoning may make sense from Tesla’s perspective, it has done little to ease frustration among some customers. Buyers of the Signature Edition vehicles paid $160,000 for the ultra-exclusive models, which sold out in less than a week. Many viewed the Fremont delivery event as part of the ownership experience itself, especially after Tesla marketed it as a celebration of the “first of the last deliveries” of the final Model S and Model X variants.

The delivery celebration now comes just days after Tesla officially ended production of the Model S and Model X at Fremont Factory, making the event even more symbolic as the company closes the chapter on its longest-running vehicles.
