Tesla has officially launched high-volume production of the Semi at its dedicated factory in Sparks, Nevada. The milestone comes nearly nine years after the electric truck was first unveiled.
The announcement came during Tesla’s Semi Rollout event on Thursday evening, September 24, where the company began handing over keys to customers including PepsiCo, DHL and US Foods.
“Today, we’re launching high volume production,” Tesla Semi announced on X, adding that “Deliveries start now”.
Tesla has been delivering Semis to select customers since late 2022, but the opening of its dedicated factory marks the start of production on a much larger scale.
The new 1.8 million square foot factory has an annual production capacity of 50,000 trucks, with the Standard, Long Range and European-spec Semi all sharing the same assembly line.

Tesla is also bringing much of the manufacturing process in-house. Rather than simply assembling components from suppliers, the factory produces its own stampings, batteries, drive axles, high-voltage distribution systems, cooling modules and seats.
The Semi is also the first Class 8 truck to use a powder-coated finish.
The Standard Range Semi offers an estimated 325 miles (523 km) of range, while the Long Range version can travel 500 miles (805 km) on a charge when fully loaded. Tesla says customers have validated that longer figure in real-world operations, and that the truck can travel more than 600 miles (965 km) with lighter loads.
Tesla will also become a customer itself, using Semis to transport freight between its facilities.
However, the one big piece of information not revealed last night missing is the price of the Semi, although unofficial reports estimate the Standard Range at US$260,000 (C$352,000) and the Long Range at US$290,000 (C$392,500).
For Canada, the launch comes as R.R. Plett Trucking prepares to receive 12 Semis in June 2027, alongside plans for Megachargers in Langley and Kamloops. Meanwhile, Winnipeg-based Bison Transport is already testing the Semi with its drivers in the Chicago area.
