Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet has now surpassed 1 million miles (1.61 million km) of unsupervised driving, a major increase from the figure the company disclosed less than two months ago.
In its Q2 2026 update in July, Tesla said its fleet had accumulated more than 380,000 miles (about 612,000 km) of unsupervised operation. At the time, the figure drew considerable criticism as it came roughly a year after Tesla first launched its Robotaxi service, and about six months after it began fully autonomous operations.
Many also compared it to Waymo’s autonomous mileage count at over 200 million miles.
However, during Tesla’s Cybercab launch event in Austin on Thursday, Tesla’s head of AI, Ashok Elluswamy, revealed their figure has now jumped to more than 1 million miles (1.6 million km).
“As a testament to the safety I am happy to announce that we have achieved 1 million miles of unsupervised robo taxi operation,” Elluswamy said during the presentation.
The milestone means Tesla has added roughly 620,000 miles, or nearly 1 million kilometres, since the previous announcement in July. The cumulative total has increased by approximately 163%, reaching more than 2.6 times the earlier figure.
The company didn’t provide a city-by-city breakdown of its 1 million unsupervised miles, nor how much of the total was accumulated with Cybercab testing. Tesla currently operates driverless robotaxis in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Tampa, Miami, and Orlando.
With 1 million miles under their belt, that number should start climbing even faster for Tesla. Cybercab officially joined the Robotaxi fleet to select riders on Thursday, and Tesla says public Cybercab rides in Austin will begin Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
