Tesla has started rolling out its new Automatic Collision Evasion feature to owners, less than a week after we first reported on the new FSD-powered safety feature.
Automatic Collision Evasion is included in software update 2026.27.6 with FSD (Supervised) v14.3.9, which started deploying to Early Access testers last night. However, perhaps not unsurprisingly, the feature is currently limited to vehicles equipped with Tesla’s newer AI4 hardware.
Owners with AI3/HW3 vehicles are also receiving 2026.27.6, but with FSD (Supervised) v14.2 Lite, and Automatic Collision Evasion is not included in their release notes.

As we reported last week, Automatic Collision Evasion can activate FSD while the owner is driving manually if the car detects the driver isn’t sufficiently attentive or FSD may have been unintentionally disengaged.
With the public release, Tesla has also provided more details about exactly how the system works.
According to the updated owner’s manual, Automatic Collision Evasion operates during manual driving when FSD is not currently active. It can operate between 22.5 mph (36 km/h) and 85 mph (137 km/h).
When the feature kicks in, the car sounds a chime and lets the driver know that FSD has taken over. Once the immediate danger has passed, FSD stays engaged and continues driving normally. The driver can take back control at any time by braking or steering, just as they would when normally disengaging FSD.
Tesla says the system will not activate while FSD is already controlling the vehicle, while cruise control is active, or while the car is in Reverse.
The AI4-only rollout is particularly notable because Tesla recently brought many v14 improvements to HW3 vehicles through FSD v14 Lite. That release uses intelligence distilled from the AI4 version of v14, while adding features such as parking, unparking and reversing.
