Tesla appears to be making final preparations for the Cybercab launch event, with the first batch of the purpose-built autonomous vehicles now registered for its Robotaxi fleet in Austin.
According to Texas DMV registration data, seven 2026 Tesla Cybercabs were added to Tesla Robotaxi’s fleet today, August 31. The vehicles are listed as recently added VINs tied to an operator’s TxDMV registration, making it the first time Cybercabs have appeared in the company’s Austin fleet.
UPDATE 11:55am PT: Tesla has now registered 45 Cybercabs, according to the latest Texas DMV data3.
The registrations come just three days before Tesla’s Cybercab launch event in Austin on September 3.

Cybercab prepares to join the Robotaxi fleet
Tesla has been steadily building toward the Cybercab’s introduction over the last several months. Unlike the Model Y vehicles currently handling Robotaxi rides, the Cybercab was designed from the ground up for autonomous operation, without a steering wheel or pedals.
The addition of seven registered vehicles suggests Tesla is preparing at least a small fleet for the upcoming launch, although it remains unclear whether these Cybercabs will immediately begin carrying paying passengers or initially be used for demonstrations, testing, or employee rides.
Tesla has already been producing Cybercabs at Giga Texas since April. The company has also been preparing for the new vehicle ahead of its deployment with local emergency responders, holding sessions to get them familiarized with the purpose-built robotaxi earlier this month.
Registering the vehicles with the Texas DMV is another important step toward putting them into service. However, with only seven Cybercabs appearing in the latest registration data, the initial rollout will likely be limited.
