Tesla recruiting experienced chip engineers in Taiwan for Terafab

Tesla appears to be moving quickly to advance its Terafab chip project, publishing a series of new engineering job postings just weeks after unveiling the ambitious project.

The new job postings show the company is looking to fill nine engineering roles tied directly to Terafab, a next-generation semiconductor facility aimed at powering artificial intelligence, robotics, and high-performance computing.

The positions are all based in Taiwan and target experienced candidates, with most requiring at least five years working in advanced chip manufacturing.

A job listings page displays nine Sr. Process Engineer positions at Teradib, each with specific specializations such as Chemical Mechanical Planarization, Wet Etch, Plating, Lithography, and others in the AI & Robotics field.

Several of the roles call for familiarity with cutting-edge process nodes below 7 nanometers, with references to emerging 2-nanometer-class technologies. That places the hiring squarely at the leading edge of the semiconductor industry—an area dominated by companies like TSMC, which is headquartered in Taiwan.

The job listings, first reported by Reuters, also highlight the breadth of capabilities Tesla wants to bring in-house. Roles span key front-end fabrication processes including lithography, dry and wet etching, thin film deposition, and chemical mechanical planarization. Others focus on yield engineering and process integration, highlighting the complexity of building a fully operational chip manufacturing pipeline.

One listing specifically calls for experience with advanced packaging techniques such as CoWoS and SoIC—technologies pioneered by TSMC that are critical for high-performance AI chips. Their inclusion suggests Tesla is not just thinking about chip design, but also about how to assemble and scale those chips for real-world applications.

Tesla’s focus on Taiwan for these roles is no coincidence. The region is home to the most advanced semiconductor ecosystem in the world, making it a natural place for the company to recruit talent with deep experience in leading-edge processes.

These are the first job postings related to Terafab. Even before it was officially announced, Tesla published a job posting seeking a Technical Program Manager for the project.

Terafab is expected to be built in Austin, Texas as a joint effort between Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. Since the announcement last month, Intel has also come on board as a partner in the project, bringing with them their invaluable expertise in chip making.
