Tesla Q1 2026 Earnings: What to Expect

Tesla is set to report its first quarter 2026 financial results after the market closes tomorrow, April 22, with expectations pointing to a challenging start to the year as the company balances slowing demand with continued investment in AI and energy growth.

According to Tesla’s company-compiled Wall Street consensus, analysts expect the automaker to deliver revenue of approximately $21.4 billion for the quarter, alongside GAAP earnings per share of $0.16. Gross margin is projected to come in at 17.5%, while free cash flow is expected to be negative at around -$1.57 billion.

The anticipated softer financial performance follows Tesla’s Q1 delivery report, which showed 358,023 vehicles delivered, up modestly year-over-year but down significantly from the previous quarter.

Automotive performance will once again be front and centre for investors. Analysts are closely watching gross margins, particularly as Tesla continues to use pricing adjustments and incentives to remain competitive in an increasingly crowded global EV market.

At the same time, Tesla’s spending remains high. The company is in the midst of a heavy investment cycle, with capital expenditures tied to AI infrastructure, new vehicle programs, and manufacturing expansion. This is expected to contribute to the negative free cash flow forecast for the quarter, a notable shift after a period of consistent positive cash generation.

After the financials are reported, much of the focus will turn to the earnings call where CEO Elon Musk and other executives will answer questions from retail and institutional investors.

Some of the top voted questions at the time of publication include those seeking more information on Optimus V3, FSD Unsupervised progress and Robotaxi expansion, updates on the upcoming AI5 chip and whether it will be added to vehicles or not, as well as the ever-popular question about FSD updates on HW3.
