Tesla Cybercab Spotted Testing in Las Vegas

The Tesla Cybercab has been spotted testing on public roads in Las Vegas, marking the first known appearance of the company’s purpose-built Robotaxi platform in Nevada.

The sighting, shared by Tesla watcher Sawyer Merritt on X, shows a production-ready Cybercab with California manufacturer plates navigating streets with a driver. And yes, this Cybercab had a steering wheel.

The move into Las Vegas testing comes as Tesla’s broader Robotaxi ambitions begin to take shape beyond its initial deployment zones, with a limited launch in Dallas and Houston over the weekend.

Addtionally, earlier this year multiple Model Y vehicles outfitted with Robotaxi-specific hardware—including camera washers—were spotted in nearby Henderson, suggesting the company has already been preparing for an eventual Robotaxi launch in the state.

Las Vegas stands out as a logical next step for Tesla’s autonomous ride-hailing network for several reasons. The city has a high concentration of short, repeatable trips along well-defined corridors like the Strip and downtown core, making it an ideal environment for refining autonomous routing and pickup/drop-off behavior.

In addition, Nevada has historically been more open to autonomous vehicle testing compared to some other jurisdictions, providing a more flexible regulatory backdrop.

There is also an existing foundation for transportation innovation in the city. The Boring Company already operates the Las Vegas Convention Center Loop, offering Tesla-based underground transport for convention attendees. While separate from the Robotaxi network, the presence of Tesla vehicles operating in a semi-closed system provides a natural stepping stone toward broader autonomous deployments across the city.

Tesla previously identified Las Vegas as one of five high-priority expansion markets, alongside cities like Dallas, Phoenix, and Miami.
