Tesla retires Model Y white interior in Europe, adds Zen Grey

Tesla is expanding its Zen Grey interior for the Model Y, with the company introducing the new option in Europe, while at the same time discontinuing the longtime white interior option across the region.

The change affects all Model Y Premium trims in Europe. Now, buyers can select the Zen Grey interior that first debuted on the larger six-seat Model Y L in China. The option adds €1,200 (C$1,933/US$1,390) to the base price.

The European rollout comes four months after Tesla made the same change to Model Y Premium variants built at Giga Shanghai for markets including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea.

Zen Grey expands beyond China

While the colour itself first appeared with the launch of the Model Y L, Tesla’s decision to bring it to the regular Model Y is quickly turning Zen Grey into a global interior option.

Zen Grey offers a more subdued look than Tesla’s outgoing white interior while also changing more than just the colour of the seats. On the Shanghai-built Model Y, several areas that were previously black with the white interior are now finished in matching lighter tones.

These include the armrests, door grab handles, centre console armrest and side trim, along with the trim surrounding the wireless charging area.

End of the road for Tesla’s white Model Y interior

The European expansion means another elimination for the white interior that has been part of the Model Y lineup since the SUV first launched in 2020. With Zen Grey now replacing white in markets outside of North America, and based on similar changes in the past, it is only a matter of time before white is discontinued and Zen Grey is introduced in Canada and the U.S.

In fact, it already is available in North America, but only on the Model Y L (which hasn’t started deliveries yet) and not the Premium trims in the U.S. The Model Y L is still not available in Canada. The base Model Y RWD in all markets is only available with the Black interior.
