Tesla has added a new feature that has been requested by owners for years, officially expanding Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality to more of its Model Y trims – but only in the U.S.
According to the Tesla Outlet Adapter listing on the company’s online shop, V2L is now available on all Model Y Premium trims in the U.S. – this includes both the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variants. V2L was previously available only on the Model Y Performance and the Cybertruck.
Tesla has also added the Outlet Adapter as an option in the Model Y online configurator, allowing buyers to include the accessory when placing their vehicle order. (h/t: Sawyer Merritt)
The feature allows owners to tap into the Model Y’s high-voltage battery to run external electrical devices through Tesla’s Outlet Adapter. That means the vehicle can effectively serve as a large portable power source for everything from camping equipment and power tools to fans and space heaters.
Tesla’s Outlet Adapter is priced at $80 in the U.S. and connects to the vehicle through the charge port using a compatible Gen 3 Mobile Connector.
Once connected, owners can plug standard electrical devices into the adapter. Tesla lists output at 120 volts and 20 amps, with a maximum available power of 2.4 kW.
Which Model Y Premium Vehicles Support V2L?
Unfortunately Tesla does not specify a production cutoff date or VIN range for compatible Model Y Premium vehicles. That suggests the functionality may be available across the existing Premium lineup rather than being restricted to newly manufactured vehicles.
However, numerous owners have reported that once they are logged in to their Tesla account, their Model Y Premium is flagged as not compatible.

What about Canada?
For Model Y owners in Canada, we appear to be left out of the V2L party. Tesla’s Canadian version of its online shop does not mention compatibility for the Model Y Premium. In fact, it no longer even includes the Model Y Performance.
As we have reported earlier this year, Tesla’s Canadian Outlet Adapter listing actually claimed compatibility with the Model Y Performance (and Cybertruck), despite owners reporting that their Model Y Performance vehicles were missing the feature.
Tesla also provided conflicting explanations, with some customers being told V2L was awaiting Canadian approval and others being told their vehicles lacked the hardware necessary to ever support the feature.
The latest change to Tesla’s Canadian shop adds another wrinkle. The Model Y Performance has now disappeared from the compatibility list altogether, leaving only the Cybertruck. Meanwhile, Tesla has explicitly added the Model Y Premium to the U.S. listing.
This suggests again that the Canadian limitation is hardware-related rather than simply a feature waiting to be activated through a future software update.
