Tesla Model Y Tops Canadian Search Rankings

Canadians are searching for EVs at a record pace, with over 3.4 million combined searches for the country’s top EV models from April 2025 to April 2026, according to a new report.

However, when it comes to what EVs people in Canada are searching for, the Tesla Model Y is leading the pack by over 250k with 728,000 searches.

According to this new report, the top EV models searched in Canada were:

  1. Tesla Model Y
  2. Tesla Cybertruck
  3. Subaru e-Outback
  4. Tesla Model 3
  5. Kia EV9
  6. Volkswagen ID.Buzz
  7. Nissan Leaf
  8. Kia EV6
  9. Cadillac Lyriq
  10. Tesla Model S  

The report, completed by MoneySuperMarket, examined global Google searches for specific EV models and broke them down by country. In terms of global top brands, it is a two-horse race, with BYD and Tesla accounting for 6 of the top 10 most-searched EVs.

The report also examined EV adoption rates worldwide and assigned each country an index score out of 100. To calculate the index score, the report looked at:

  • The total EV Sales Share in 2024
  • Sales Share Growth in the segment year over year
  • The EV Stock Share in 2024
  • Chargers per 1,000 EVs
  • Percentage of fast chargers

Norway topped the index with a score of 73.2, Denmark with 64.7, and China with 64.5 rounded out the top three. Sadly, not a single country in the Americas made the top 20.
