Tesla has quietly updated the Design Studio in Canada, and if you were hoping to take delivery of a new Model Y this year, you may want to get your order in sooner rather than later.
According to the latest estimated delivery windows shown in the online configurator, every Model Y variant is now showing delivery dates at the very end of 2026, and even extending into early 2027.
The updated wait times are as follows:
- Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive: December 2026 – January 2027
- Model Y All-Wheel Drive: December 2026
- Model Y Performance: December 2026 – January 2027
We checked wait times for several postal codes on both the west coast and eastern parts of the country, and they were the same throughout.
That means with still five months remaining in the year, Tesla has already sold through nearly all of its planned 2026 Model Y allocation for Canada.
Why such a long wait?
The extended wait times are likely the result of two factors.
The first is demand for the Model Y is strong in Canada, helping keep order volumes high because orders are now being suppled from Giga Berlin. This shift in logistics, introduced earlier this year, allowed Tesla to sidestep U.S. tariffs and drastically reduce prices, as well as introduce a RWD variant for under $50,000, not including the $5,000 EVAP rebate.
As a result, Model Y sales in Canada surged in second quarter of 2026, increasing an estimated 98% year-over-year.
The second is an extension of that same reason – deliveries are now dependent on vehicles being shipped from Germany to Canada. The change that allowed Tesla to lower Model Y prices in Canada also introduced longer shipping times and more complex logistics compared to sourcing vehicles from the U.S.
We have heard from many customers who have placed orders that have seen their estimated delivery windows shift by several months after ordering.
While the estimated delivery dates could improve if Tesla increases shipments from Germany or customers cancel existing orders, anyone placing a new Model Y order today should be prepared to wait until the final weeks of 2026, or even the beginning of 2027, before taking delivery.
