Tesla finally brings Model Y Performance to China

Tesla has officially launched the refreshed Model Y Performance in China. While China was the first market to receive the refreshed Juniper Model Y, it has had to wait much longer for the Performance variant, becoming one of the last major markets to get Tesla’s quickest version of the electric SUV.

The new Model Y Performance starts at RMB 369,000 (C$76,150/US$55,000). Tesla is estimating deliveries in just two to six weeks, meaning the first customers could be behind the wheel before the end of September.

As expected, the Performance sits at the top of what is becoming a crowded Model Y lineup in China. It is RMB 30,000 more expensive than the six-seat Model Y L, which starts at RMB 339,000. The lineup now consists of five variants, with the entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive starting at RMB 263,500.

The timing of the launch comes two months after the top-of-the-line variant appeared in a filing with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

With the new variant, Tesla is hoping to boost Model Y sales, which have been declining in China this year. In August a total of 29,260 units were sold in the country, down nearly 26% from a year earlier and marking the SUV’s third consecutive year-over-year monthly decline. Through the first eight months of 2026, Tesla delivered 226,931 Model Ys in China, down 6.1%.

To further boost sales, Tesla introduced some discounts and finance incentives this week on inventory Model Y and Model 3 vehicles delivered before the end of the quarter.
