Tesla dominated Europe’s new car sales rankings in September 2026, with the Model Y claiming the top spot and the Model 3 finishing second, according to preliminary registration figures from Dataforce.
Reported by the Dutch outlet AutoWeek, the Dataforce numbers show 40,971 Model Y registrations for the month and 25,057 for the Model 3. That left both Teslas well clear of the Volkswagen Golf, third at 18,088. The data covers the EU, the UK, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland, and was about 98% complete at publication.
The results continue a strong September for Tesla across Europe. As we previously reported, the automaker saw a significant rebound in several major markets after a challenging first half of the year.
The Model Y also became Germany’s best-selling car, recording 8,038 registrations, while the Model 3 claimed the top spot in Spain.
At the brand level, AutoWeek puts Tesla at 66,035 registrations across Europe in September. By that count, the Model Y alone outsold every vehicle from Opel (38,071) and Ford (36,579).

Compared with September 2025, Model Y registrations rose 55%, while the Model 3 more than doubled with a 106% gain.
Tesla’s performance came during a particularly strong month for Europe’s automotive market. Overall new vehicle registrations increased 10%, while battery-electric vehicle registrations jumped 60% compared to the same month last year.
While September was a major improvement for Tesla, the question now is whether the company can maintain that momentum through the final quarter of 2026, particularly as competition from both established European automakers and newer Chinese brands continues to grow.
