Tesla had a huge September in Taiwan, with the Model Y finishing the month as the country’s best-selling vehicle. Not best-selling electric vehicle, but best-selling vehicle overall.
According to new vehicle registration data, Tesla registered 5,154 Model Ys during September. That put the electric SUV comfortably in first place, more than 1,500 units ahead of the second-place Toyota Corolla Cross, which recorded 3,615 registrations.
The result is particularly notable given the size of Taiwan’s overall new vehicle market. There were 37,054 new vehicles registered during the month, meaning the Model Y alone accounted for nearly 14% of all registrations.
A familiar favourite, the Toyota RAV4, finished third with 2,108 units, followed by the Yaris Cross at 1,365. The Ford Territory rounded out the top five with 879 registrations. (via TaiwanNews)

Tesla’s strong showing came as Taiwan’s auto market enjoyed a better-than-expected month. Total registrations increased 15% compared with September 2025. Through the first nine months of 2026, registrations reached 307,210 vehicles, an increase of 3.7% year-over-year.
September’s performance was helped by a surge in Model Y deliveries toward the end of the third quarter, according to local reports, a familiar pattern for Tesla as shipments arrive and vehicles are handed over in batches.
The Taiwan numbers add to a strong finish to the quarter for Tesla in several international markets. Registrations also increased across a number of major European countries in September, including France, Denmark, Norway and Spain, as Tesla continued to recover from weaker sales in the region over the past two years.
