Extended delivery timelines are now also impacting potential buyers in the United States. Tesla’s most affordable Model 3 has seen its delivery timeline pushed back significantly south of the border, with new orders now facing a wait of up to seven months.
According to Tesla’s online Design Studio, new orders for the base Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) are now showing an estimated delivery window of between January to March 2027.
Other Model 3 variants are also seeing extended wait times, although not nearly as long. The Premium RWD, Premium AWD, and Performance are all currently estimated for October-November 2026.
The change is particularly notable given how quickly the estimated wait times have increased. Earlier this week, Tesla was listing the Model 3 RWD with an estimated delivery time of just four to five weeks. That estimate was then pushed into early 2027, and the latest update now gives buyers a three-month window extending through the end of March.
The change comes after customers in Canada have also seen delivery estimates pushed well into the future. Buyers looking at the Model Y may now have to also wait until 2027 to take delivery of their new car.
However, the circumstances behind the two delays are quite different. High demand is still a factor, but Canadian Model Y orders are currently being supplied from Giga Berlin in Germany, meaning those vehicles must be shipped overseas before reaching customers, adding significant time to the delivery process.
That isn’t the case with the Model 3 RWD in the U.S. The sedan is built domestically at Tesla’s Fremont factory in California, making its January-March 2027 delivery window more notable. Tesla hasn’t explained the reason for the extended wait, but without overseas shipping being a factor, the most likely cause is strong demand for the entry-level Model 3.
