Tesla owners who have trouble reading the small text on their vehicle’s touchscreen could get some relief. Elon Musk has confirmed that Tesla will introduce a larger font option.
The confirmation came after an X user shared how the current interface prevented an elderly neighbour from buying a Tesla after a demonstration of Full Self-Driving (FSD).
Current large text setting isn’t enough
Over the weekend, X user Stephen Fleming described demonstrating FSD to an elderly neighbour who no longer drives at night because of poor vision. According to Fleming, she was ready to purchase a Tesla, but the touchscreen’s small text was a dealbreaker.
Fleming suggested Tesla introduce an optional interface with a minimum 48-point font. Musk responded with a straightforward confirmation:.
Tesla already offers Standard and Large text settings in the Model 3 and Model Y, accessible through Controls > Display. However, Fleming said the text was still too small “even with the display adjusted to large print.”
Musk didn’t provide a timeline for when the larger text might arrive through a free over-the-air (OTA) software update, but it shouldn’t take too long to implement.
Tesla has made several changes to its touchscreen interface over the years, including a 2023 software update that introduced additional customization options.
More recently, Tesla has also expanded hands-free vehicle controls through Grok voice commands, reducing the need to interact with the touchscreen.
However, text readability appears to remain an issue for some drivers.
