Tesla Giga Berlin Attracts Construction of Housing Estate Nearby

Tesla Giga Berlin has revitalized the economy of Brandenburg, Germany, making it an attractive place to live. The company has attracted the construction of a residential area for 1,500 residents within a 15-minute drive from the factory.

Tesla made significant contributions to the development of Brandenburg. Before, it has been one of Germany’s weakest economies. But it has now become the fastest growing, according to data for the first half of 2023 from the government statistics office. Giga Berlin has created over 11,000 jobs, which has greatly attracted people to consider moving closer to the factory. However, there is a significant housing shortage in the region, which has opened up opportunities for developers.

Westminster Immobilien GmbH plans to build a settlement for 1,500 residents in Friedersdorf (Heidesee). The project in the Berlin area is located in close proximity to the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg (Giga Berlin). The residential and office building project in Friedersdorf will be located on 63,000 square meters (678,126 square feet). Rental housing for 1,500 residents will be created in five-story residential buildings.

In addition, local amenities are planned for the location, with restaurants and co-working spaces planned in two commercial buildings. The quarter will be complemented by a medical and health building. The residential area, surrounded by nature, will offer ample recreational space with 26,000 square meters (279,862 square feet) of green space. It is planned to equip the roofs of the village buildings with photovoltaic systems. The Tesla factory is 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) away. This means that from here you can get to Giga Berlin in less than 15 minutes. The village will definitely become home to many Tesla factory employees.

The area is currently in the development planning process. Steps such as the municipality deciding on the location, approval of the preliminary design, as well as public participation and subsequent finalization of the planning draft by the developer, have already been completed. A statutory decision is expected by the second quarter of 2024. Construction is planned to begin in late 2024-early 2025.

“There is a huge demand for residential space in the Berlin area. Demographic changes and a few new buildings will further increase the need for housing space in the region. The proximity to the Tesla factory and Berlin makes Friedersdorf a very attractive location for our project. We are pleased to have the opportunity to sustainably improve the housing situation through long-term investment in the region,” explains Alexander Wietasch, Managing Director of Westminster Immobilien GmbH.
