Lucid is finally delivering one of the most requested features for its new Gravity SUV. The company has announced that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support will begin rolling out to Gravity owners through an over-the-air (OTA) software update starting this week.
The update arrives as part of Lucid UX 3.5 and will initially be released to owners in North America beginning Thursday. Lucid says customers in Europe and the Middle East will receive the update later this month.
Once installed, Gravity drivers will be able to connect their smartphones using either a wireless connection or a wired USB connection, allowing them to mirror apps such as navigation, music, messaging, and phone calls directly on the vehicle’s infotainment system.
“Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are two of the most sought-after features by our customers,” said Emad Dlala, Lucid’s senior vice president of engineering and software. “We are now providing a seamless connection between mobile devices and the Lucid Gravity. We’re excited to introduce these features to Lucid Gravity, which now offers even greater comfort and convenience for owners.”
The addition comes after months of criticism from early Gravity owners who noticed the absence of smartphone mirroring features that have become standard across much of the automotive industry. In 2023, the company added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to the Air lineup through a free OTA update.
The delayed rollout of CarPlay and Android Auto is just one piece of Lucid’s broader effort to stabilize and improve the Gravity’s software platform.
At CES earlier this year, interim CEO Marc Winterhoff acknowledged the company had faced significant software hurdles with the new SUV. He said Lucid had reorganized much of its software organization and expected the majority of the issues to be resolved by March 2026.
While Lucid’s full lineup now has Apple CarPlay, Tesla owners are waiting for similar functionality to arrive on their cars. As we reported last year, Tesla has been working to integrate Apple CarPlay through a free OTA software update. The feature was expected to ship in the 2025 Holiday Update, but was reportedly delayed due to Apple Maps compatibility issues and low iOS26 adoption rates.
