Tesla has hit another significant production milestone, this time in Europe. The company’s manufacturing team revealed that Giga Berlin has now produced its one millionth electric drive unit.
The update, shared by Tesla Manufacturing on X, simply stated: “1 million drive units built at Giga Berlin.”

Tesla’s drive units are among the most critical components in its vehicles. Each unit integrates the electric motor, gearbox, and power electronics into a compact system designed to maximize efficiency and performance. This three-in-one design has become a core part of Tesla’s engineering approach, helping reduce weight and complexity while improving range and reliability.
Giga Berlin’s latest achievement adds to a growing list of global milestones for Tesla’s powertrain production. Earlier this year, Giga Shanghai reached an impressive five million drive units built, reinforcing its role as Tesla’s highest-output facility. Meanwhile, Giga Nevada surpassed six million units in late 2025, continuing to serve as a key supplier for North American vehicle production while also increasing battery production.
These milestones highlight Tesla’s strategy of scaling manufacturing capacity across multiple continents simultaneously. Rather than relying on a single mega-factory, the company has built a distributed network where each site contributes to overall production, both for vehicles and critical components like drive units.
While Giga Berlin has been slower to ramp than many expected, things are moving in a positive direction. Earlier this month the company announced it is increasing Model Y production at the factory in June by 20% to meet growing demand for the Model Y, the only vehicle the factory currently produces.
At the same time, Tesla is increasing the Giga Berlin workforce to support the extra production volume. The automaker is hiring more than 1,000 employees and also converting 500 temporary employees into permanent roles within the factory.
