Tesla has identified the next major markets in line for Full Self-Driving (FSD), where regulatory approval is pending. The list was revealed during a presentation by Tesla’s Vice President of AI, Ashok Elluswamy at the Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), one of the world’s leading artificial intelligence conferences.
According to a slide shown during the presentation and shared online, Tesla currently has approximately 1.3 million vehicles equipped with supervised self-driving capabilities operating around the world.
The map divides countries into two categories: markets where Tesla has already shipped supervised FSD to customers, and markets where the technology remains pending regulatory approval.
Today, supervised FSD is available in North America, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Tesla has also launched the technology in China (limited), South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand, along with three European countries – the Netherlands, Estonia, and Lithuania.
However, the slide also revealed where Tesla is working to get regulatory approval.
Regulatory Approval Pending Across Major Global Markets
According to Tesla, supervised FSD is currently awaiting regulatory approval in:
- Rest of Europe
- Japan
- India
- Israel
- Bangladesh
- Thailand
- Taiwan
- Malaysia
- Philippines
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates
- Ethiopia
- Colombia
- Chile
Some of these approvals could have an especially significant impact. Europe alone represents one of Tesla’s largest vehicle markets outside North America and China. Meanwhile, countries such as India, Japan, and several rapidly growing Southeast Asian economies could dramatically increase the number of vehicles capable of running supervised FSD.
Global Expansion Roadblocks
While Tesla continues to improve FSD’s technical capabilities through neural network training and real-world driving data, regulatory approval remains one of the biggest roadblocks to broader deployment.
The company has repeatedly stated that its goal is to make FSD available worldwide, but each country has its own regulatory framework governing automated driving technologies. As a result, Tesla must navigate a complex patchwork of approval processes before expanding into new markets.
The latest disclosure suggests that work is already underway on many of those fronts. With supervised FSD now operating in multiple continents and regulatory discussions progressing across dozens of additional countries, Tesla appears to be laying the groundwork for its next major phase of growth.
