Tesla has confirmed that every new Model Y sold in North America now comes equipped with a black headliner and the larger 16-inch center touchscreen, bringing the interior updates to its entire Model Y lineup in both Canada and the United States.
The announcement came from Tesla North America’s account on X, where the company said, “Every Model Y configuration now comes with black headliner + larger 16″ center touchscreen.”
The confirmation follows a series of recent updates to Tesla’s online configurator. Earlier this year, Tesla updated the Model Y with the black headliner and larger display as standard equipment on Premium and Performance variants.

At the time, questions remained about whether the upgrades would eventually reach the entry-level version. Tesla has now answered that question, with the online configurator now showing the black headliner as standard across all Model Y configurations, including the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD).
The update now officially marks the end of the grey headliner in the North American Model Y lineup. While the change may seem minor on paper, many owners have long preferred the darker interior finish, arguing it gives the cabin a more premium appearance and better matches Tesla’s minimalist design language.

While the jump from a 15.4-inch display to a 16-inch display may not sound significant, the upgrade is more meaningful than the numbers suggest. The new 16-inch screen is high resolution QHD display offering sharper graphics and improved clarity, making navigation maps, media content, and on-screen controls appear noticeably crisper compared to the previous 15.4-inch screen.
Now that Tesla has standardized the black headliner across the entire Model Y lineup, many will be hoping the company does the same for the Model 3, which still retains the light grey headliner. Based on regulatory filings in China, that transition should be happening soon.
