Tesla has released updated safety data for Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised in Europe, saying the software is now 5.2 times safer than manual driving after more than 65 million kilometres (40 million miles) of real-world use.
As we all know, Tesla first received approval to release FSD in Europe from the Netherland in April. Not long after Tesla released its first European safety data. That report, based solely on the Netherlands, found FSD was 3.5 times safer than manual driving after approximately 23.6 million kilometres.
With nearly three times as much driving data now included across five countries, Tesla says the safety gap has widened to 5.2x.
The new figures now combine data from the five European countries where FSD Supervised is currently approved – the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, and Belgium. Tesla says each country’s data collection began on the day FSD was approved there, allowing for a consistent comparison against manually driven Teslas equipped with the same Active Safety Features.
According to Tesla, FSD vehicles travelled 41.9 million kilometres on highways without a single collision. During the same period, manually driven Teslas recorded 88 collisions over 429.3 million kilometres, making FSD 8.5 times safer on highways.
On non-highway roads, FSD travelled 23.8 million kilometres with only six collisions, compared to 368 collisions over 514.5 million kilometres for manually driven Teslas, resulting in FSD being 2.8x safer.
Tesla also highlighted improvements beyond collision rates:
Unlike Tesla’s U.S. Vehicle Safety Reports, which compare its technology to the general driving population, the European data uses a more demanding benchmark. FSD is measured against other Tesla vehicles equipped with the same Active Safety Features, meaning the primary difference is whether the vehicle was being driven manually or with FSD engaged.
