Tesla’s new Automatic Collision Evasion feature has been caught in action, with a video showing Full Self-Driving (FSD) re-engaging moments before an owner says he was about to hit a curb.
Automatic Collision Evasion first surfaced earlier this month in employee release notes for software update 2026.27.5. Tesla began rolling it out to Early Access testers on September 8 with software update 2026.27.6 and FSD v14.3.9.
According to the release notes, “Automatic Collision Evasion activates Full Self-Driving (Supervised) to try to keep your vehicle safe and then continue driving. It can engage while you are driving manually and detects that you are not sufficiently attentive to the road (for example, reaching toward the back seat), or that Full Self-Driving (Supervised) may have been unintentionally disengaged.”
With such a description, it is naturally a difficult feature to test because it requires almost getting into an accident. But that hasn’t stopped owners from trying, so far unsuccessfully, but it has now finally been caught in action.
Tesla owner Spencer (@scotsrule08) shared the clip on X on Monday, showing how he was able to get Automatic Collision Evasion to turn on just before the vehicle was about to hit a curb.

As you can see in the video below, FSD took over control of the vehicle and a message appeared on the screen to let the driver know what happened – “Full Self-Driving (Supervised) engaged for your safety.”
The feature is currently limited to vehicles equipped with AI4 (HW4). Although HW3 vehicles have received several v14 improvements through FSD v14.2 Lite, Automatic Collision Evasion is not included. It also requires an FSD purchase or subscription, meaning it is not available as a standalone safety feature.
Hopefully this is a feature that most owners will never see, but it is good to know it is there if you need it (but only if you have purchased or subscribe to FSD).
