Tesla has secured another European approval for Full Self-Driving (FSD), with Croatia becoming the eighth country on the continent to green light the supervised driver-assistance system.
Tesla announced the approval through its European X account on Tuesday, saying, “FSD Supervised now approved in Croatia Rollout will begin soon”. The company did not provide a specific date for when Croatian owners will begin receiving the software, but it will likely start rolling out later this week.
The approval follows the same path used by several other European countries. Croatia has recognized the provisional approval issued by Dutch regulator RDW in April under Article 39 of EU type-approval regulations.
The Netherlands was the first to approve FSD (Supervised) on April 10, followed by Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark and Belgium. Slovenia joined the list on September 7, followed by Czechia on September 21.
According to Croatian outlet Autonet, the country’s State Office for Metrology (DZM), which handles vehicle homologation, confirmed the system was officially approved on September 28.
That represents a notable reversal from earlier this month. On September 10, DZM told Autonet that the Dutch approval had not yet been accepted and indicated a decision was unlikely before further discussion at the EU level.
When asked what had changed, the agency said it had never opposed recognizing the Dutch approval and had instead been exercising caution. It did not provide a further explanation.
Meanwhile, a broader EU-wide approval that was expected to take place on October 6 now looks like it won’t happen until at least the end of the year. The draft agenda for the Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles meeting now lists only a “continuation of discussions” on the Dutch request, with the next apparent opportunity for a vote coming in December.
An EU-wide approval requires support from at least 15 of the bloc’s 27 member states representing 65 per cent of its population.
