Tesla adds new Lunar Silver paint for Model S/X

Tesla is bringing silver back to their lineup. After launching Quicksilver to the US this month for the Model Y, Tesla has added a new ‘Lunar Silver’ colour for the Model S and Model X.

However, unlike the addition of Quicksilver, Lunar Silver is available in both Canada and the US.

According to an update to the Design Studio on Thursday night, Lunar Silver can be added to any Model S or Model X configuration for an additional C$3,300 in Canada or US$2,500 in the United States. That makes Lunar Silver the most premium of the paint options alongside another relatively new colour, Ultra Red.

This new Lunar Silver colour looks very similar to Quicksilver, but it has more of a metallic finish to it, and also a subtle blue tint, with Tesla describing the new colour in an internal communication to employees as such, saying it is “a clean silver with a pronounced metallic effect and subtle blue tint.”

This now makes silver an option on the Model Y, Model S, and Model X, and also the Cybertruck if you count the unpainted stainless steel body as silver, leaving only the Model 3 without a silver paint option.

Interestingly, the Model 3 was the last car to have a silver paint option, called Silver Metallic, before it was discontinued in late 2018, shortly after the launch of the Model 3.
