SpaceX is gearing up for a major expansion in Bastrop County, Texas, as the company is planning an $8 million project to expand its Starlink factory less than a year after opening.
The construction project, detailed in a state filing, will add 700,000 square feet to its existing Starlink production facility at 858 FM 1209. According to the filing, construction for this expansion is scheduled to begin on October 31, 2024, with completion expected by May 2025. (via San Antonio Express-News)
Starlink’s presence in Bastrop has already seen rapid growth, particularly after opening its facility just ten months ago. In that short span, Starlink has already achieved a significant milestone with 1 million Starlink kits produced, a milestone it announced earlier this month.
The new expansion project will allow Starlink to scale up production even further and meet the growing global demand for its satellite-based internet services, which is currently available in over 105 countries around the world.
The Bastrop Starlink factory, located northwest part of the city, is not only a central production hub for Starlink but also a focal point for Elon Musk’s other ventures. Tesla’s headquarters in Austin at Giga Texas is just a short drive away, while The Boring Company, Musk’s tunneling company, also has significant operations in Bastrop.
