Rivian provides update to Canadian R2 reservation holders

Rivian has started sending emails to Canadian R2 reservation holders, giving them a better idea of when they can expect to move forward with their orders.

In an email sent on Thursday, Rivian thanked early Canadian reservation holders for being “among the first in Canada to place a reservation for R2,” and confirmed that order invitations are expected to begin in the first half of 2027.

“You can expect your order invitation in the first half of 2027. More specific timing information will be sent later this year, so keep an eye on your inbox,” the email reads.

Based on the wording of the email, it appears to be going out to a select group of early reservation holders, and not all customers. The email above was shared with us by one of our readers, but we did not receive one ourselves, even though we put down a reservation on the day orders opened.

The email is the first direct update sent to Canadian reservation holders about the R2 launch timeline. Earlier this year, Rivian updated its website to show the R2 as “Coming 2027” in Canada, after previously indicating a 2026 arrival. Rivian also removed the earlier Canadian starting price of C$66,500, leaving pricing for the market still unconfirmed.

The removal of the starting price and the delayed timeline may be tied in part to the current tariff situation with the U.S., which has already pushed Rivian’s vehicle prices higher in Canada. For the R2, a higher starting price could undercut one of its biggest selling points – affordability.

The email comes shortly after a camouflaged R2 prototype was spotted testing in British Columbia, wearing a provincial manufacturer plate. That sighting suggested Rivian has begun at least some local testing or validation work ahead of the SUV’s Canadian launch.

For Canadian reservation holders, the latest email does not provide exact pricing or delivery timing, but it does confirm Rivian is still moving forward with R2 launch plans north of the border.
