Rivian has quietly trimmed its lineup, removing the lowest-priced versions of the R1T pickup and R1S SUV. The discontinuation of its two cheapest R1T and R1S trims comes as the automaker turns its attention to the newly launched R2.
The Dual Standard variants of both vehicles have disappeared from Rivian’s online configurator, leaving buyers with more expensive versions as the new entry point into the R1 family. The change is not entirely unexpected as Rivian previously indicated the trims would eventually be phased out.
Before being discontinued, the Dual Standard R1T started at US$72,990 and the Dual Standard R1S at US$76,990. With those models no longer available, the least expensive R1T now starts at US$79,990, while the base R1S carries a starting price of US$83,990.

The lineup simplification comes at a pivotal time for Rivian. The company recently began customer deliveries of the R2, its smaller and more affordable crossover that is expected to become a much higher-volume product.
The first R2 Performance Launch Package models, priced from US$57,990, have already started reaching customers. Rivian has also said a lower-priced version targeting around US$45,000 will follow next year, giving the company a more competitive entry-level offering than the premium-focused R1 lineup.
However, the positive news was short lived. Just days after starting deliveries, the company confirmed another round of layoffs, with several hundred employees affected as it works to reduce costs and improve profitability.
