Rivian has expanded a recall from 2025 involving faulty front turn signals, adding nearly 4,000 R1S and R1T electric vehicles after discovering the supplier behind the original recall, Myotek, had not been fully contained the issue.
The issue can cause one or both front turn signals to stop working. If that happens, Rivian says other drivers and road users may not be able to see that the vehicle is about to turn, increasing the risk of a collision.
Supplier Issue Leads to Recall Expansion
Under the original recall, Rivan’s supplier Myotek was supposed to have contained the issue by no longer using the defective turn signals. However, Rivian says some incorrectly manufactured components that should have been quarantined by Myotek were instead installed in additional vehicles.
Rivian monitored the issue following the original recall in 2025. Between then and July 2026, the automaker identified 17 additional turn signal failures that appeared to match the original defect. An investigation determined those failures were caused by the same supplier issue.
Nearly 4,000 Additional R1S and R1T Vehicles Recalled
According to new documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the expanded recall covers 3,829 model year 2025 and 2026 R1S and R1T vehicles in the United States.
This includes 3,204 R1S SUVs built between June 12, 2024 and May 26, 2026, along with 625 R1T pickups built between October 1, 2024 and March 19, 2026.
Rivian estimates approximately 0.6% of the recalled vehicles are actually affected by the issue.
Transport Canada has yet to issue an updated recall.
Rivian’s Recall Fix
The company will inspect affected vehicles and replace the front turn signals where necessary at no cost to owners. Notification letters are expected to be mailed by September 29, 2026, while affected VINs are scheduled to become searchable through NHTSA on August 31.
Drivers should receive a warning if the problem occurs. The instrument display will show a “Turn signal lights not working. Service it soon.” message, while the remaining turn signals and audible indicator will operate at twice their normal speed.
