Rivian R1S Dual Motor range and horsepower figures revealed in EPA documents

New details have been uncovered about the Rivian R1S Dual Motor variant, including the electric SUVs EPA-rated range and horsepower figures.

According to documents on the EPA website discovered by a member of the Rivian Forums, it appears that the Rivian R1S Dual Motor with the Large battery pack outperforms previous estimates from the automaker, although the increased range from the quad-motor setup is not as much as many were expecting.

As expected the wheel and tire setup affects the range estimates. With 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires, the R1S Dual Motor delivers 306 miles (491km) of range. Opting for 22-inch wheels and street tires increases the range to 341 miles (548km), while the highest range of 352 miles (566km) is achieved with 21-inch wheels, which Rivian had previously estimated would be able to achieve 340 miles (547km).

Although the documents do not show the results for the R1T Dual Motor, it is expected that the numbers will be better for this variant due to its smaller stature compared to the R1S.

When it comes to horsepower, the document reveals that the R1S Dual Motor delivers an impressive 708 horsepower, confirming earlier reports about the Performance Dual-Motor variants. The base R1T Dual Motor is believed to produce 600 horsepower, but customers can purchase an Enhanced option that pushes that figure to 700 horsepower.

Rivian is set to introduce the Max pack later this year, which is expected to increase the range to close to 400 miles (644km) for the R1S, and possibly to 450 miles (724km) for the R1T.

These range figures achieved by the R1S Dual Motor is thanks to Rivian’s in-house-developed Enduro motor, which was introduced due to supply constraints with the more powerful quad-motor powertrain. The first Dual-Motor R1T has already rolled off the production line last month, and the first deliveries are expected to begin in a few weeks.
