Rivian Rolls out 2026.07 Update With Key Fixes and Apple Music Upgrades, but AI Assistant Still Missing

Rivian has begun deploying its latest over-the-air (OTA) software update, version 2026.07, to customer vehicles, but one of its most anticipated features remains notably absent. While the update delivers a range of refinements and bug fixes, the Rivian Assistant has yet to make its debut, despite earlier expectations it would arrive in early 2026.

The AI-powered assistant was first unveiled during Rivian’s Autonomy & AI Day in December, where the company positioned it as a next-generation in-car experience capable of handling everything from vehicle controls to third-party integrations like calendar scheduling and restaurant reservations. Internally developed over roughly two years, the system is designed to leverage large language models and connect seamlessly with external services.

Since then, there have been signs of progress. Some owners recently reported on Reddit that a working version of Rivian Assistant was present in loaner vehicles, leading to speculation that a wider rollout was imminent. However, with the arrival of 2026.07, it’s clear Rivian is still holding the feature back—likely prioritizing stability and refinement before releasing it to the broader fleet.

That approach aligns with Rivian’s cautious software strategy in recent years. The automaker has taken extra time to validate major features after earlier issues, including bugs that, in some cases, risked disabling vehicles. A similar delay was seen with Google Cast, which took several months from announcement to full release.

While the Rivian Assistant is missing, there are still a number of new features in the 2026.07 update, focusing largely on polishing the existing experience across both first- and second-generation R1T and R1S models.

According to the release notes shared by RivianTrackr, one of the more noticeable additions is an upgrade to Apple Music, which now supports Dolby Audio and introduces a new streaming quality setting. Enabled by default, the feature dynamically adjusts audio quality based on connection strength to reduce buffering, though users can disable it to prioritize maximum sound quality.

Connectivity improvements are another key highlight. Rivian says Wi-Fi, cellular, and app reliability have all been enhanced, alongside clearer in-vehicle indicators to help drivers understand network issues. Infotainment performance has also been improved, with faster app launch times and better overall stability.

Several practical tweaks have been added as well. Activating the rear defrost will now automatically turn on the front wiper heating element, a small but useful change in colder climates. Meanwhile, updates to the 12-volt battery system aim to improve long-term health and diagnostic accuracy.

For second-generation vehicles, the update includes more targeted fixes. These include resolving an issue with Lane Change on Command failing after a previous maneuver, reducing steering wheel vibrations at highway speeds, and addressing inconsistencies in range estimates that previously caused fluctuations.
