Porsche Reportedly Plans to End Taycan Production by 2030

Porsche could be preparing to bring production of the Taycan to an end by 2030, marking a major shift for the electric sports sedan that helped launch the German automaker into the EV era.

According to a report from German business publication WirtschaftsWoche, Porsche has decided to phase out Taycan production by the end of the decade. The report also claims the automaker has abandoned earlier plans to move production from its main plant in Zuffenhausen to its Leipzig factory.

Porsche has not confirmed the report. When asked for comment, a spokesperson instead pointed to remarks made by CEO Michael Leiters in July, when he said there were “no plans to discontinue the Taycan in the short term.”

Taycan Sales Have Fallen Sharply

The Taycan debuted in 2019 as Porsche’s first fully electric production vehicle and initially proved popular, with global sales reaching nearly 41,000 units in 2023.

However, demand has dropped significantly since then. Porsche sold roughly 16,000 Taycans in 2025, while deliveries reportedly totaled only around 6,000 units during the first half of 2026.

The decline comes as Porsche has already shifted some of its investment back toward combustion-engine and hybrid vehicles while scaling back other EV-related plans.

Porsche’s EV Strategy Is Changing

Ending Taycan production would not mean Porsche is abandoning EVs. The company currently sells the Macan Electric and continues developing additional electrified models, but its transition is moving more slowly than originally planned.

For now, the Taycan still has several years ahead of it, assuming the reported 2030 timeline proves accurate. Porsche’s statement that there are no plans to discontinue it “in the short term” also doesn’t necessarily contradict the report.

What remains unclear is whether the Taycan name will disappear entirely or eventually return on a new electric platform.
