Porsche Taycan breaks Guinness World Record title for shortest charging time in coast to coast journey

Wayne Gerdes broke the Guinness World Record for crossing the United States in an EV in the shortest charging time.

Gerdes broke the record using a Porsche Taycan and charging with the Electrify America CCS DC Fast Charging network.

Gerdes completed the crossing from Los Angeles, California to New York City in a 2021 Porsche Taycan. The cumulative charge time was only 2 hours, 26 minutes and 48 seconds.

The previous record was set just last year by the Kia EV6, which required 7 hours, 10 minutes and 1 second of charging time.

Gerdes tested out multiple EVs and their charging time to break the record. He ended up choosing the Taycan when he charged the vehicle on a 350KW charger. The Taycan went from 6 to 82 per cent in only 22 minutes.

The Taycan was a standard 2021 Taycan equipped with the Performance battery Plus. It also had the Premium Package, Adaptive Cruise Control and Porsche Electric Sport Sound.

To break the record, Gerdes used the Electrify America fast-charging network to ensure he could spend less time on the charger and more time on the road.

Gerdes needed to record and track every mile and charge to get the record. Gerdes used a GPS tracker, a written account and filmed the entire journey to do this.

Guinness certified the record upon completion of the route.
