Chinese automaker Chery Group has taken another step toward entering Canada, with its Omoda and Jaecoo brands launching a bilingual Canadian website that confirms the pair are targeting a late 2026 arrival.
The new Canadian site, titled “New Electric SUVs Coming to Canada,” includes a clear launch message.
“The wait is almost over. A new era of mobility is launching in Canada. OMODA & JAECOO, coming late 2026.”
While Omoda and Jaecoo are not the first Chinese automaker brand to launch a Canadian website – BYD beat them to the punch – they are the first to announce a 2026 Canadian debut date on their own website. BYD’s website simply says “coming soon.”
The new Omoda and Jaecoo page does not reveal which vehicles will arrive, their pricing, or where customers will be able to buy them. The site describes the upcoming lineup only as “premium electrified vehicles inspired by exploration and designed for modern Canadian life.”
You can sign up for updates through a launch form, while a retailer page currently lists no locations. Instead, the company says it is “building a network across Canada” and will announce locations ahead of launch.
The website also includes a disclaimer noting that vehicles shown are intended for other markets and that Canadian specifications, design and features may differ. Any potential models remain unconfirmed, although based on test vehicles seen in Ontario they are likely to at least bring the OMODA 9 plug-in hybrid and JAECOO J5 electric SUV.
Omoda and Jaecoo EVs will be entering Canada under the reduced 6.1% tariff rate introduced earlier this year, and are limited by a 49,000-unit annual quota. More than 33,000 quota spots remain available in the current window through February 28, 2027.
Tesla has been the main user of the quota so far, shipping Shanghai-built Model 3 vehicles to Canada since May 2026. Until new Chinese brands complete certification and begin deliveries, Tesla’s Shanghai-built advantage remains in place.
