Mobileye is taking the next big leap in its operations and has announced plans to roll out a robotaxi service in the US in 2027.
The new robotaxi services will use Mobileye Drive, a standalone self-driving platform developed in coordination with Moovit.
Moovit is a subsidiary of Mobileye and has focused on consumer applications, including multimodal trip planning, as well as fleet management services, such as autonomous vehicle control and teleoperation infrastructure.
This initial deployment of Mobileye Drive will have around 100 vehicles in a single US metropolitan area in 2027. Once the test case is successful, the company will then roll out to multiple other jurisdictions with the goal of 17,000 total robotaxis on the road by 2032.
Mobileye has not confirmed which jurisdictions they plan to launch in next year, but if the robotaxi launch trend continues, we can assume it will be either Las Vegas, Phoenix, or the Bay Area.
Now, it is important to note that Mobileye is not moving away from the licensing side of its EyeQ system-on-chips and ADAS platform, which over 50 automakers use, including Volkswagen, Ford, BMW and Stellantis. Instead, the company will progress both sides of the business in parallel. So, don’t be surprised that by next year, you will have a choice of Waymo, Zoox, Tesla or a Mobileye robotaxi in some US metropolitan areas.
