Ford’s electric vehicle sales continued to slide in the third quarter of 2026, falling 80% compared to a record-setting quarter a year ago, with all three of its remaining EVs posting significant declines.
According to Ford’s U.S. sales tables, the automaker sold just 6,047 EVs during the quarter, down 80.2% from 30,612 in Q3 2025 and 38.0% from the 9,746 delivered in Q2 2026.
Last year’s comparison was unusually strong, as buyers rushed to take advantage of the US$7,500 federal EV tax credit before it expired on September 30, 2025. However, the continued quarter-over-quarter decline shows Ford’s EV slowdown extends beyond that one-time effect.
EVs accounted for only 1.2% of Ford’s U.S. sales during Q3, compared with 5.6% one year earlier.
The Mustang Mach-E remained Ford’s top-selling EV with 5,574 units, but that was down 72.4% from its record 20,177 sales in Q3 2025. Mach-E sales also dropped 20.7% from 7,032 in the second quarter.
The F-150 Lightning recorded an even steeper decline. Ford sold just 289 units, down 97.1% from 10,005 a year ago and 2,421 in Q2. Ford ended production of the battery-electric Lightning in late 2025 as it prepares an extended-range electric successor.
E-Transit sales dropped 57.2% to 184 units from 430 last year.
Through September, Ford has sold 22,653 EVs in the U.S., down 67.5% from 69,600 during the same period in 2025.
Hybrids performed considerably better, although sales still declined 19.7% to 44,308. Combined EV and hybrid sales totaled 50,355, down 41.3%. One bright spot was the Maverick Hybrid, which jumped 59.6% to a third-quarter record of 27,793 units.
Across its entire lineup, Ford sold 509,764 vehicles in Q3, down 6.6% year-over-year and about 7.2% from 549,200 in Q2. Year-to-date sales stand at 1,516,279, down 8.6%.
Ford’s next major EV launch is the Fathom midsize pickup, scheduled to arrive in early 2027 starting at US$28,350. In Canada, the Fathom will start at C$42,690 before the EVAP rebate, with pre-orders opening in early 2027.
