Canada’s Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) continues to see strong uptake, with newly released figures showing another $22 million in rebates were claimed during the second half of May.
According to updated program data published on the Transport Canada website, EVAP had $2.153 billion in remaining funding as of May 15, 2026. By June 1, that figure had fallen to $2.131 billion, indicating that approximately $22 million in incentives were claimed over a 15-day period.
The latest numbers mean Canadians claimed an average of roughly $1.47 million in EV rebates per day between May 15 and May 31.
When EVAP funding figures were last updated, $122 million had been claimed between the start of eligible purchases on February 16 and May 15. That equated to an average of about $1.37 million per day. The latest data shows demand has remained consistent and even increased, with rebate claims continuing at a slightly higher rate through the second half of May.
In total, EVAP has now paid out approximately $144 million since eligible purchases began in February, leaving about 93.7% of the program’s original $2.275 billion funding allocation still available.
Because EVAP provides rebates of up to $5,000 for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and $2,500 for qualifying plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), the exact number of vehicles supported is unknown. However, using the maximum $5,000 incentive as a baseline, the program has funded at least 28,800 vehicle purchases so far.
The actual total is likely higher given that many applicants receive the lower $2,500 incentive.
The continued pace of claims matches up with recent sales trends in Canada’s EV market. Following the return of federal incentives earlier this year, zero-emission vehicle sales surged, including a 75% year-over-year increase in March.
