The federal government has announced $10.9 million in funding for 22 electric vehicle (EV) charging and education projects across Canada. The investment will see the installation of nearly 400 new chargers while boosting public awareness of EV ownership.

Announced by Environment and Climate Change Minister Julie Dabrusin on Thursday, the funding includes almost $9 million through the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP) to support nine charging projects.

Hydro-Québec received the largest allocation, with $5 million to install 100 new DC fast chargers across its Electric Circuit network. Other major recipients include Ivy Charging Network, which will receive $2.08 million to install 44 chargers in Ontario, and QuantumEV, which will add 74 chargers with $573,265 in funding.

In British Columbia, the City of Coquitlam will install 30 new Level 2 chargers.

The remaining $2 million will fund 13 education and awareness initiatives through the Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative. Projects include EV charging guidance for municipalities, first responder training, charging education, and public test drive events in communities across Canada.

According to the federal government, British Columbia now has more than 8,900 public charging ports, up 87% since 2023. The announcement is part of Canada’s broader strategy to expand charging infrastructure and encourage EV adoption nationwide.
