All Tesla taxi service Current Taxi offering free rides this month to healthcare workers

Current Taxi is an all-Tesla taxi service that started in Kelowna, British Columbia, and recently expanded to Victoria, on Vancouver Island with a fleet of up to 15 Tesla vehicles.

As a thank you to both Island Health and Interior Health workers tackling the COVID-19 outbreak, Current Taxi is offering free transportation to or from their respective hospitals until April 14.

In a statement to Drive Tesla Canada, Current Taxi owner and Director or Marketing Kate Wilson said they offered their help to local health authorities, and this is how they responded.

We thought we might be delivering things for them, but they both responded with a need for their health-care workers to be transported to and from their hospitals. We’re happy to help.

The complimentary rides are limited to a 20km radius from either the Kelowna General Hospital, Victoria General Hospital, or Royal Jubilee Hospital.

To take advantage of the offer, healthcare workers can follow these 3 easy steps:

1. Pre-book your ride in the Current Taxi app

2. Add “IH employee” to the notes section of your booking

3. Show your IH identification to the driver at the start of the ride

Current Taxi is already taking extreme measures to ensure the safety of both passengers and the drivers during the pandemic. Each vehicle is disinfected after each and every ride, and at the beginning and end of each shift.

Occupants are also limited to only 3, all of which must be in the back seat to limit exposure to the driver. Payments are only accepted through the app to ensure touchless payments.

Finally, the drivers will open and close the doors for you at the beginning and end of your trip, ensuring the only surface you have to touch is your seatbelt (which is disinfected after every ride).
