2027 Ford Mustang Mach-E gets standard extended range battery and new Trail package

While Ford has decided to kill the F-150 Lightning, they aren’t quite giving up yet on the Mustang Mach-E. The electric SUV is getting more range as standard and a new package aimed at gravel roads and campsites.

The automaker detailed the 2027 Mustang Mach-E on Thursday, a few weeks after its EV sales sank 80% in the third quarter as the Mach-E and Lightning struggled.

Extended range battery for every trim

For the first time, the extended range battery comes standard across the whole lineup, and the smaller pack is gone.

Select and Premium models get 88 kWh of usable capacity, while the GT and Rally carry 91 kWh.

Ford credits a new, cheaper front motor that matches the old unit’s performance. In the U.S., the Select RWD now starts at US$39,995 before destination.

Ford says final EPA range estimates will come closer to availability.

The new Mach-E Trail

The Trail is a factory-built US$2,295 package that can only be added to the Select eAWD.

It raises the ride height by 10 mm up front and 15 mm at the rear compared with the Select and Premium, using specially tuned passive struts and springs.

It also borrows the Rally’s steering rack, 19-inch dark grey wheels and Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires, and adds 400W Pro Power Onboard, with plugs behind the centre console and in the cargo area.

“It’s built for all-season, off-pavement excursions,” said Nick Rallis, Ford’s lead Mach-E vehicle integration engineer, adding that the tires bring “a significant traction benefit in winter conditions as well.”

Visually, it stands apart with a Carbon Black front fascia section and a Trail logo on the centre armrest.

Trail buyers also get 100,000 extra Ford Rewards points beyond the 22,000 given with every Mach-E, which can go toward accessories such as a Thule clamp-on cross bar kit.

What about Canada?

U.S. orders opened on October 22, and the Trail is expected to start arriving in the first quarter of 2027.

Ford.ca already teases the Trail package, but it still lists 2026 trims and hasn’t published Canadian pricing for the 2027 lineup.
