Tesla Model Y reclaims top spot in Korea, outselling all domestic brands again

Tesla is once again on top in Korea. The company’s Model Y moved nearly 9,000 units in July 2026.

July saw Tesla regain the top spot in South Korea’s auto market. The American company sold 10,237 units in the period. The Model Y alone accounted for 8,705 units, or 85 percent.

The Grandeur from Hyundai came a close second with 8,532 units, while the Kia Seltos came third, with 7,247 units. It was the second time in 2026 that the electric SUV came first, after selling 8,762 units in May.

Comparing foreign brands, BMW came second with 6,533 units, while Mercedes-Benz came third with 3,959 sales. The Tesla Model Y alone outsold GM Korea, Renault Korea, and KG Mobility, as the trio only managed to sell 5,080 vehicles in Korea. As such, Tesla beat all imported and local brands.

Globally, Tesla’s comeback was a mixed bag in July. In China, the company had its best month in 2026, with exports standing at 93,379 units. The figure rose to 128,394 units for the whole quarter, while it sold 126,157 locally.

Over in Europe, Tesla performed well in France and Denmark, recording 86 percent and 52 percent increases year-on-year, respectively. However, Sales dropped 97 percent in Norway, 81 percent in Spain, 77 percent in Italy, 69 percent in Portugal, and 60 percent in Sweden.
