Tesla Model Y drag race – boosted vs. unboosted, plus a surprise guest [Video]

The Long Range (LR) Tesla Model Y is a family SUV with enough seating and cargo space to handle almost anything you can throw at it.

Even so it is no slouch when it comes to straight line speed, able to reach 60mph in a respectable 4.8 seconds.

Thanks to the magic of Tesla’s over-the-air (OTA) software updates, the grocery-getter can become even faster if you purchase the Acceleration Boost. Available through the mobile app, it drops the 0-60mph time to just 4.2 seconds.

So how much of a difference does that actually make on the track? Gali from HyperChange put his un-boosted Model Y up against a boosted version to show us.

In a series of drag races, the difference was noticeable almost immediately with the boosted Model Y pulling away mere seconds into the race. Gali’s Tesla consistently lost each duel by about 3 car lengths.

Not to be outdone, Gali purchased the Acceleration Boost for his Model Y during filming. After a short time his car had downloaded and installed the update, and the two cars went head-to-head for more battles.

This time with a little luck off the line, Gali was able to win the next race.

But that wasn’t all. A local resident was apparently watching the filming, and brought his Lamborghini Huracan out to see how it faired against the electric SUV.

Watch the full video below to see who wins that race.
