First video of the new Tesla Model 3 center console in action

One of the more talked about changes in the 2021 Tesla Model 3 refresh is the new center console.

The automaker got rid of the gloss black piano finish, integrated the wireless charging pad and made the overall look a little more high end with a vinyl leather finish.

So far we’ve only seen one picture, along with the pictures released by Tesla, but today we get our first video of the new center console in action thanks to a customer in China.

Tesla has previously described the new storage lid as a sliding one, replacing the previous cover that flipped open. As you can see in the video, the lid requires constant pressure to push it open, but requires only a small tap for it close automatically.

The amount of storage underneath appears to be about the same. Unfortunately we don’t quite get to see if the storage area continues underneath towards the front of the vehicle.

We also get a closer look at the sleek micro-suede wireless charger. With it now integrated into the console, the USB plugs have been relocated to the front of the compartment. If you have a USB thumb drive like the one in the video, there could be issues with it getting in the way.
