Polestar has reportedly ended production of the Polestar 2 in China after building more than 200,000 units, just months after the automaker reintroduced the electric sedan in Canada for the 2027 model year.
According to Norwegian publication Motor.no, the automaker’s Norwegian website no longer allows customers to place new factory orders, instead directing buyers toward vehicles already in inventory.
The website displays a message stating, “The selected configuration is not available for factory order. Compare your configuration with ready-for-delivery cars.”
Norwegian outlet TV2 Broom also reported that the final Polestar 2 vehicles have rolled off the production line in China, bringing total production to just over 200,000 units.
The Polestar 2 was first unveiled in 2019, with customer deliveries beginning in the summer of 2020. It remained the brand’s primary volume model until the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 arrived in 2024.
In Norway alone, 16,716 Polestar 2 vehicles have been delivered since its introduction, making it the country’s 14th most-delivered passenger vehicle over that period.
However, the end of production does not mean the Polestar 2 is disappearing. Polestar has already confirmed that an entirely new generation is scheduled to arrive early next year.
In a February announcement, the company outlined plans to introduce four new vehicles over three years, including a completely redesigned successor to the Polestar 2.
“Polestar 2 is the foundation of our brand, with over 190,000 cars sold and an enthusiastic community of customers,” said Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller.
For Canadian buyers, the timing is particularly interesting. Polestar reopened Canadian orders in June for the 2027 Polestar 2, priced from $69,900 and available exclusively in Long range Dual motor configuration.
The Canadian model produces 310 kW (421 horsepower) and offers an EPA-estimated range of 447 kilometres. At the time, Polestar Canada said more than 7,300 Polestar 2 vehicles were already on Canadian roads.
Polestar Canada has previously announced that the next-generation Polestar 2 is planned for launch in early 2027.
