Tesla’s Cybertruck is heading to an international diplomatic summit, but not as a display vehicle or VIP shuttle. Instead, Kazakhstan is deploying the all-electric pickup as part of its state security operations during this week’s Organization of Turkic States (OTS) summit in Turkistan.
According to Kazakhstan’s State Security Service, two specially equipped Tesla Cybertruck units will be used as mobile command and coordination vehicles during the May 15 summit, where artificial intelligence and digital technologies are expected to be key themes of discussion.
The agency says the Cybertrucks will support law enforcement and technical operations surrounding the meetings between heads of state. The trucks are reportedly outfitted with communication systems and operational hardware capable of functioning without external power sources.
In a statement, the State Security Service said the vehicles will “coordinate units and perform real-time terrain monitoring during the international event in Turkestan.” Officials also highlighted the Cybertruck’s ability to quietly operate near official venues, an advantage made possible by its all-electric drivetrain.

While the Cybertruck has become a common sight on social media since launching in North America, its use in official government security operations remains relatively rare. Kazakhstan says this is the first time specialized Tesla Cybertruck vehicles have been deployed for security purposes in the country.
The trucks were reportedly donated to the agency free of charge by a Kazakh entrepreneur, allowing officials to test the platform without taxpayer funds.
Kazakhstan has already started integrating Tesla vehicles into other government applications. The country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations has also been using the Cybertruck for search and rescue operations in mountainous terrain and environmentally sensitive areas where quieter electric vehicles are preferred.
The move mirrors a growing trend among law enforcement and government agencies around the world experimenting with the Cybertruck for operational use, citing lower maintenance costs and reduced fuel expenses. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department recently unveiled a donated fleet of Cybertrucks, including a SWAT-focused unit.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Police added the Cybertruck to its high-profile patrol fleet in 2024 for ceremonial and escort duties.
