Lucid issues three recall notices impacting over 6,200 Air sedans

Lucid Motors has issued not one, but three separate recalls for its Air sedan on the same day. The three recalls were issued on July 27, 2023 and impact more than 6,200 vehicles.

The first recall involves 778 Air sedans produced between October 22, 2021, and June 29, 2023. Lucid has revealed a software flaw in these vehicles that could lead to an unexpected power loss in the rare occurrence of a power module inverter failure. Vehicles not updated to software version 2.0.66 or beyond lack a crucial safeguard against this potential hazard.

While most drivers would typically receive a warning approximately two minutes before a complete motor shutdown due to inverter power failure, some unlucky Lucid Air owners experienced a more severe outcome. In certain cases, an inverter malfunction could trigger the fuses to disengage, resulting in an abrupt loss of power without warning. (via CarScoops)

Lucid will be issuing a software update to correct this issue in all 778 affected vehicles.

The second recall is the largest. While the recall notice covers 5,523 Air sedans, it actually impacts every single Air built to date – between October 22, 2021, and June 13, 2023. Some vehicles were found to have potential issues with their windshield wiper arm nuts. Over time, these nuts could gradually loosen, compromising the effectiveness of the windshield wipers or causing them to cease functioning altogether. To combat this problem, Lucid has taken proactive measures by already re-torqueing the wiper arm nuts in 2,431 vehicles. The remaining 5,523 Lucid Airs affected by this recall will undergo the same re-torqueing process.

Finally, the third and smallest recall impacts just 59 vehicles built between November 24, 2021, and January 29, 2023. These select units are susceptible to an issue wherein the rear-view image fails to appear when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. This anomaly affects vehicles still operating on software versions ranging from 2.0.15 to 2.0.50. To address this concern, these owners will receive detailed instructions via email and first-class mail on how to update their vehicle software.
