As Starlink continues its push into Africa, Central America and South America, the company is now clear to start operations in Zambia.
Per News Diggers, the Zambian Minister of Science and Technology Felix Mutati confirmed the approval of an operating license in an announcement to the local press.
In his press conference, he said:
I am pleased to announce that we have today (Wednesday) issued a network license for internet data, necessitating Starlink to launch its low-orbit satellite internet services in Zambia.
Starlink has not yet confirmed a launch date for the internet service. However, according to the Starlink map, Zambia will go live in Q3 2023. In southern Africa, currently, only Mozambique has Starlink service, but most of the neighbouring countries are going live in Q3 or Q4 of 2023.
Currently, only three countries on the continent have active Starlink services. Those being Mozambique, Nigeria and Rwanda.
Starlink has not released the pricing for Starlink in Zambia nor provided any comment on the news.
